JOHANN VAN DER WALT – Love is in the Air
Today is a very special day – it is Valentine’s Day on a Friday.
The previous time this happened was on 14 February 2014. And for me, that date is very special.
Not because it’s Valentine’s Day, but because this was the day that I first met with Eslie Basson at the Fujifilm offices in Johannesburg and made the decision to change over, ditching all my previous gear.
It was a bold step to take back in 2014. The Fujifilm interchangeable lens system was very new and the idea of a mirrorless camera still had a sort of a stigma of being “point-and-shoot” cameras.
Today, such a step is a no-brainer. Everybody in the photography world knows that Fujifilm is a flagship brand, with the company numerous times illustrating their love of photography.
After our meeting, I went to Kameraz in Rosebank to trade most of my gear in on a Fujifilm X-T1. All this because of a Friday Valentine’s Day. No wonder I have such a love affair with Fujifilm!
To celebrate the day, I would like to share some photos I took last year on Valentine’s Day at Dongmen, China, not far from where I am currently living.
All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100F in Acros black and white.
