DILLON KIN – Who am I?

My name is Dillon, I’m a Wedding and portrait photographer.

My approach is a blend of documentary and fine art. I got started in photography about 5 years ago when I moved to Cape Town. I fell in love with the city and I wanted to capture everything I saw. I bought an entry level DSLR and photographed absolutely everything!

I did a few free engagement and couple shoots for friends and fell in love with capturing people in love. I knew that I wanted to be a wedding photographer from that moment, so I started up a Facebook page and started to get some interest. It took a while, but eventually I booked my first wedding. It was a small intimate wedding in Kalk bay (which was perfect for my first wedding). I was nervous and prepared as much as I could for the day.

Five years later and I’m still capturing weddings, people in love and families (approaching it the same way I do weddings, with a documentary approach).

Wedding photography is my first love, but since moving to the Fuji X system. I’ve started shooting more street photography and capturing more moments of my daily life and family. I have a one year old, and love capturing little moments as he grows up.

I use the Fujifilm x-pro2 for all of my personal work and carry it everywhere I go. I usually have it paired with the Fujinon 23mm f2, which makes a perfect combo, as it’s fully weather sealed and delivers beautiful image quality.

For my wedding work, I usually carry the 23mm 1.4, 35 1.4 and 56 1.2 lenses in a small Ona Bowery bag. I love how small and compact the Fuji X system is!

During most of the day I have either the 23 or 35 1.4 lenses on my camera, depending on what I feel like shooting. Both lenses are similar but deliver different looks. The 56 1.2 lens is usually reserved for portraits or when I want to isolate subjects during the reception. The f1.2 aperture of the 56mm is perfect for shooting in low light at receptions!

I love to share my passion for photography, so I’ve started offering workshops. I’ll be offering various different workshops in future!
