Malcolm Dare: Capturing the Harper Sport Car with the Fujifilm GFX100

The Harper Type 5 Sports Car is a high-performance vehicle with its origins in Cape Town, being able to race from 0-60 km/h in 2.7 seconds. To date, there has only been 20 of these beauties made and I was lucky enough to be commissioned to shoot this incredible car.

With this shoot I wanted to show off the car in and around its natural surrounds of Cape Town, but also put the Fujifilm GFX100 through its paces and see how far I could push it. Shot in different lighting and environments, I processed all the images in 16-bit through Capture One, and worked on the RAW images in Photoshop. What I found very impressive was the extend I could retrieve information from both the shadows and highlights. This allowed me to create a different look and feel to each image without loss of information.

Finally, compared to other medium format cameras, the Fujifilm GFX100 was also very easy to handle on location. Whether holding it in hand, shooting from the back of a Land Rover, or on a tripod tethering, it handled with a plomb.
