TAKE TEN: Kirsten Roxanne
The tenth anniversary of the X Mount system means we get to celebrate with our community. In this Take Ten, Joburg-based conceptual portrait photographer Kirsten Roxanne tells us more about her love of portraits and shares her ten favourite shots. (Photo by Andre Badenhorst)
Why do you love photography?
I love photography because it reminds me of the good days when I was young and carefree. This is my way of creating happiness, by capturing special moments through my lens of life. Every day is special and we can never go back in time, but we can capture a memory for a lifetime; it is everlasting and keeps moments and emotions alive.
People don’t always feel comfortable in front of the camera, trying to hide their flaws or imperfections. I love to show them what I see and make them feel content as to who they are and loving it! A smile is the final accessory to that perfect outfit.
What made you switch to Fujifilm and when did this happen?
I switched to Fujifilm in 2019 because I love how straightforward the camera is and how it always gets that picture-perfect result. It is a great camera for any aspiring photographer.
Which Fujifilm camera do you use?
I have a Fujifilm X-T20 as well as the X-H1.
What do you love most about the camera?
I love the fact that my camera can take stills as well as videos. But the best feature for me is that my camera has a stabilizer which helps me so much. The quality of the images is most definitely on a “Mother level”! I absolutely love my cameras!
Tell us a bit more about your photography and what you would like to achieve through this.
I photograph conceptual portraits, with my ultimate aim to make people’s dreams come alive and to play a role in capturing their perfect fantasy or memory in time. I love to create and see someone get excited about new possibilities! I want my photography to stand out and for everyone to notice, most importantly I want my work to make a statement and for it to be a limited edition for the story behind it and the creative love that comes with it.
My only goal in life is to make people happy and to have my very own solo exhibition one day, and ultimately my very own studio. That would be an amazing dream come true!
