TAKE TEN: Lukas Stander

The Fujifilm X Mount system is ten years old this year. To help celebrate, Fujifilm South Africa is featuring the work of local Fujifilm users. 20-year-old Lukas Stander uses photography to support his fine-art career, showcasing ten of his favourite pics.

Why do you love photography?

I have always communicated rather through visual imagery than words. I started as a youngster by continuously drawing and by the age of twelve I got my first Gopro, that’s when my love of imagery through photography just flourished.

Now it’s an obsessive passion to communicate through visual imagery by always capturing life, moments and stories through my lens, especially with my Fujifilm. I never leave the house without my camera.

What made you switch to Fujifilm and when did this happen?

I bought my first Fujifilm camera in 2020 with the money I made from my first solo photographic exhibition. At that time I was very interested in the video side as well, so it’s a great camera for me to do high quality photography and videography.

The first thing that stood out was the retro design of the Fujifilm cameras. It was love at first sight, but there is obviously a lot more to this camera than simply its looks. They have great image and video quality, plus it feels good and it’s fun to use.

Which model do you own and what do you love most about it?

The Fujifilm X-T4. I love it not just for the aesthetic look-and-feel but also for the in-body image stabilisation which is great for shooting low-light portraits.

The 240fps at 1080p stood out for me and works great for shooting mountain biking clips with my friends. There is just so much you can do with this small camera, it’s truly amazing and such a big upgrade from my previous camera.

Tell us a bit more about your photography and what you would like to achieve through this.

I mostly focus on landscape and portraiture fine art photography, but also do a lot of commercial work like business promotional videos, real estate, music photography, music videos, wedding photography and video. Basically, everything that has to do with a camera to save up money to support my fine art career. My goal with photography is to photograph and exhibit all over the world with my Fujifilm.
