TAKE TEN: Ralph Crow
From humble beginnings taking photos on a tablet, through to winning competitions to study photography, Ralph Crow’s tenacity is plain to see. Ralph shares his ten favourite images while chatting about his love of photography.
Why do you love photography?
Photography allows me to go out and explore, meet new people and create friendships. I love that I can do what I love whilst enjoying it – that is the beauty of photography. But the thing I enjoy the most is trying to find the right angle to capture the ‘perfect’ picture.
Tell us a bit more about your photography and what you would like to achieve.
I started back in 2015 by taking pictures with my tablet; I just had a thing for capturing moments. By late 2016 I got my first DSLR camera and started pushing myself by learning through YouTube. I started entering photography competitions until I won one held by Huawei. That gave me the opportunity to study at The Photography Institute and from there I have been improving my skills. I would love to collaborate with big brands and finally be able to take my passion of photography full-time.
What made you switch to Fujifilm and when did this happen?
I switched to Fujifilm in 2021 coming from DSLR cameras from other brands. At that stage I felt like I needed something that would complement my style. I wanted something that I can carry around anywhere, anytime and can still be able to handle anything you throw at it.
Personally, I love the classic look of Fujifilm cameras and to top it all the dials make the process of shooting your subject way faster. There’s no other camera I’d rather have.
Which Fujifilm camera do you use and what’s your favourite lens?
I use the XT-3 and my fav lens is the 33mm f1.4 – it’s preeeeety! I love that it’s so compact, they complement one another, and it can fit in my pocket (lol, just kidding), but really.
What is your best photography tip?
Focus on your creativity and not your gear.
