TAKE TEN: Warren Talmarkes

Hailing from Cape Town, Warren Talmarkes is doing incredible commercial (and personal) work on the GFX system. We chatted to him about how he got started, Film Simulations and what he likes about his cameras. Join us as he shares his top ten Fujifilm images.

Why do you love photography?

My love of photography started within the music scene. Having the opportunity to document scenes and then looking back, vividly remembering those moments. There was also a great connection with likewise photographers in the photographer’s pit at shows and festivals, all who shared the same appreciation towards photography.

What made you switch to Fujifilm and when did this happen?

I switched in 2022 and it’s one that should’ve happened sooner to be honest. Most of my work shifted towards digital platforms and the capabilities of the Fujifilm X-T3 suited this.

Which Fujifilm camera do you use?

My workhorse was the Fujifilm X-T3. In my current setup for commercial and lifestyle work I’m using the Fujifilm GFX100S.

What do you love most about them?

With the Fujifilm X-T3 I loved the performance for stills. The system was compact and much lighter than my previous DSLR setup. The camera’s flexibility allowed me to use it in a professional space as well as take it along as a travel camera.

The GFX 100S is just unbelievable. The image quality, coupled with lens options, produces some of the most amazing images.

Another favourite is the Fujifilm Film Simulations. These straight-out-of-camera colours allow for various options on shoots.

Tell us a bit more about your photography and what you would like to achieve through it.

My photography focus has shifted from music photography into more of a commercial and lifestyle space. Which I’m really enjoying lately. I come from a graphic design background which helps me understand the deliverables on photoshoots and where the content will be used.
