I grew up with pictures and stories. My dad used to work as a journalist, and my mom is a talented illustrator, who made children’s books come alive for me with her beautiful drawings. They are also both very keen amateur photographers…

The idea of doing a photo-based video came from myself and Liam Lynch collaborating on a photo exhibition dealing with the 3month period around Fokofpolisiekar's recording of ‘Droom Hoog’. The band released our first full-length album in 10 years, titled Selfmedikasie, last year so the last thing fans would’ve expected was another short release so quickly afterwards.
I’ve always been drawn to stories. Alice in wonderland has always been a favourite of mine. I used to curl with the book under the covers for many a night as a little girl. In 2002 I received my first camera as a gift and was drawn to the idea that I could continue creating and capturing visual stories through the looking glass of my camera.

I got my First camera at age 6, yes, i really screwed up a lot of film back then. but slowly started to figure things out. Im a self taught Photographer and learned a lot of lessons the hard way and had to fight through the frustrations of "not getting what I want" in the shots. It's a long and hard when you only have 24 or 36 frames to work with every 2 months.

One thing that was certain from an early age was that I always enjoyed creating and it is probably the main reason I did so well in my art classes and not really well in any other subjects…

My move to Fujifilm wasn’t done on a whim and a fancy. I’ve been looking at the system for some time and actually shot a wedding with a borrowed X-T1. Unfortunately, at that stage it had too many limitations when compared to the setup I owned. Things like battery life and image quality weren’t up to scratch and a move seemed unlikely…

When photographing my cousin’s baby shower, she asked me if I had taken the photo. I said yes and she said that was so fast. I asked her what she meant. She replied that she did not hear the click. (remember that i am deaf) I realised i had set the camera to the ES mode (electronic shutter) so the shutter is silent. I changed it back to the MS mode (Mechanical shutter)…
